Establishment of Tea Factories - Uttarakhand Tea Development Board

In the fiscal year 2023-24, the Uttarakhand Tea Development Board processed 5.92 lakh kilograms of green tea leaves and produced approximately 1.25 lakh cups of tea.

At present, the Board has established its own tea factories in the following districts:

Tea Factory, Ghorakhal (Nainital) – Organic

Tea Factory, Champawat – Organic

Tea Factory, Bhatoli (Chamoli) – Organic

Tea Factory, Kausani (Bageshwar) – Inorganic

Tea Factory, Harinagari (Bageshwar) – Inorganic

In addition to the above, the Board is proposing to establish small tea factories in the following districts:

Tea Factory, Dhauladevi (Almora)

Tea Factory, Didihat (Pithoragarh)

It is proposed to operate the above tea factories established by the Board in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode/private sector in the future, for which the eligibility criteria and policy are being prepared.

Offline

Employment is being provided to workers at the local level by engaging them in the tea factories established by the Board. Green leaves are being purchased from farmers who have reclaimed and are operating their own gardens, at the rate of ₹40/- per kilogram, and are being supplied to the factories. Payments are made by the Board directly to the farmers’ bank accounts on a monthly basis.
